Odododiodio parliamentary primary disturbances referred to special committee – FEC


The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has referred the incidents of violence that disrupted the vetting process of the Odododiodio Constituency NDC parliamentary candidates to a special committee for further investigation and resolution.

The committee has also taken steps to launch an appeal process concerning the eligibility of one of the aspirants, directing this matter to the special committee.

The Special Committee comprises: Edward Doe Adjaho - Former Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Samuel Sarpong - National Vice Chairman, NDC, Mr. George Loh - Deputy, Director Legal, NDC, Obuobia Darko-Opoku - Deputy Director of Communications, NDC and Peter Lanchene Toobu- MP for Wa West Constituency.

According to the party, “all processes relative to the party’s parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency have been put on hold pending the outcome of investigations by the Special Committee.”

On Friday, individuals associated with one of the NDC aspirants took destructive actions by damaging party property, including chairs and an air-conditioner, and pelted members of the vetting committee with stones. 

During the event, a journalist named Akosua Otchere from Citi TV/FM was attacked by a group of individuals associated with the NDC, who physically assaulted her by twisting her hand and forcefully taking her phone.

The Odododiodio constituency is a notorious hot spot for acts of vandalism and political violence having recorded several incidents over the years.
