24 DCEs appointment revoked


President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revoked the designation of 24 District Chief Executives.

This action was taken in accordance with Article 243 (3) b of the Constitution and section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014, (Act 936).

No explanation was provided for their terminations.

In a separate statement, the president has put forth nominations for the appointment of 26 individuals as District Chief Executives in 26 districts across the country. The President’s nominations align with the provisions stated in article 243 (1) of the Constitution.

In accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Governance Act, Act 936 (2016), the President possesses discretionary authority to nominate a single individual to serve as the Chief Executive for the MMDA (Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly) in Ghana. However, this nomination requires prior approval by no fewer than two-thirds of the assembly members who are present and participating in the voting process.
