Aggrieved Menzgold Customers Petition Attorney -General’s Office and Ministry of Justice over Sale of Frozen Nam1 Assets

The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold has submitted a petition to the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice to investigate the reported sale of frozen properties of Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM1, the Chief Executive Officer of the defunct company.

The petition, filed on Tuesday April 16, questions the alleged sale of properties formerly owned by NAM1 which were confiscated by law enforcement agencies, including the Economic and Organised Crime Office.

The coalition is calling for investigation into how NAM1 allegedly managed to sell off the listed properties despite a court order freezing the disposition of the properties. The properties listed in the petition and alleged to have been sold off in spite of the court order include Zylofone Media/Zylofone Arts Complex, Brew Marketing Consult at Kasoa Ofaakor and Richester Hotel, located at East Legon in Accra.

The customers say they are appalled by the act of impunity on the part of NAM1 and Menzgold and alarmed by the alacrity with which these properties are being sold. The customers therefore want the Office of the Attorney General, to investigate the matter for justice to prevail.

NAM1, Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Ghana Limited are facing 39 counts of defrauding by false pretence, inducing members of the public to invest and money laundering. An initial charge sheet filed before the court accused the three of inducing members of the public to invest a total ofGH¢1,680,920,000.

That figure has significantly dropped to GH¢340,835,650, which the three are said to have induced customers into investing due mainly to the fact that some of the complainants are not willing to testify. The prosecution has closed its case after calling eight (8) witnesses, and counsel for the accused has been given an opportunity to file a submission of case to answer.
