Bawumia’s competence and ability to effectively manage Ghana’s economy as president remain unquestioned – Richard Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has refuted claims made against the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, by Nana Ohene Ntow, a former General Secretary of the NPP who is now an advisor to Independent Presidential Candidate Alan Kyerematen. Nana Ohene Ntow questioned the competence of Dr. Bawumia in managing the economy during a recent appearance on Peace FM’s Kokroko show.
In response, Mr. Ahiagbah emphasized that the current economic challenges, influenced by external factors such as COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War, do not accurately reflect Bawumia’s capabilities. He suggested that Nana Ohene-Ntow should revisit economic data from 2017, 2018, and 2019, when the economy was growing at an average of 7%, to provide a more accurate assessment of the current government’s economic management record.

Additionally, Mr. Ahiagbah pointed out that digitalization is a significant driver of economic growth and prosperity today, countering Nana Ohene Ntow’s suggestion that digitalization is not the entire economy. He also made it clear that Nana Ohene-Ntow’s assertion about major institutions under the government being more corrupt than previous administrations is subjective, emphasizing that allegations of corruption are not conclusive and that the law has the final say in such matters.

Mr. Ahiagbah reiterated that Dr. Bawumia’s competence and ability to effectively manage Ghana’s economy as president remain unquestioned. He also expressed respect for Mr. Alan Kyerematen, while refraining from speaking negatively about his candidacy or campaign
