Chief Charged for Kasoa Murder of Military Officer


The District Court , Achimota, presided over by Mr, Prince Owusu, has formally charged one Benlord Ababio also known as Nana Barima Ababio, presumed to be a chief, for the murder of Lance Corporal Michael Danso, a military officer, on Monday, April 30, at Kasoa in the Central Region. This was over an alleged land dispute. The charges, follow an advice contained in the case docket, from the Office of the Attorney-General, for the self styled chief and National Security Operative and an accomplice to be charged respectively with the crime.

The Deceased, Lance Corporal Michael Danso, is a Miltary officer stationed at the Army Base Workshop, Burma Camp. The accused person, Benlord Ababio alias Nana Barima Ababio, is a National Security Operative and a self-acclaimed traditional chief in Kasoa. On April 30, 2024 about 4pm, the deceased, Lance Corporal Michael Danso, and two of his colleagues, Corporal Abdul Omar Rahman, and Lance Corporal Ametus Matthew, went to the Millennium City Police station at Kasoa in the Central Region, to report encroachers who were developing a parcel of land belonging to lance Corporal Abdul Omar Rahman.

The accused Benlord Ababio, reportedly went to the Police station, attacked and shot at Lance Corporal Danso, who was waiting for his colleagues behind the steering wheel of a Toyota Rav 4 vehicle, killing him instantly. The facts narrate that Ababio, was immediately disarmed and arrested for investigation and further arraigned before the Court.

The prosecutor, detective inspector Adu Gyamfi, told the Court, the advise on the docket of the case, forwarded from the Office of the Attorney-General, is that the first accused, Benlord, be charged with conspiracy to commit crime to wit murder and murder while his accomplice , one Nana Amo Kwakye also be charged with Conspiracy. Meanwhile, Inspector Gyamfi, asked the court for time, to file the bill of indictment to the committal proceedings. The accused, have been retained in custody, as their application for bail, has been denied by the Court. They are to return to Court, on June 20.
