University of Ghana implements Strict Academic Progression Policy: Students Below Minimum GPA to Be Withdrawn

The University of Ghana (UG) has reinforced its academic progression and withdrawal policies, leaving students in certain colleges at risk of being withdrawn from the institution.

Students in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, College of Education, and College of Humanities are required to have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.00 to progress to the next level.

According to a statement signed by the Director of the Academic Affairs Directorate of the UG, Mrs Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah, the policy is in line with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017) and any student who fail to achieve the prescribed minimum CGPA for their respective colleges will face withdrawal from the university.

“In this respect, current level 200 and level 300 students are hereby directed to review their academic performance from their online provisional transcript in their Management Information System (MISWeb),” she said.

She hinted that Students who have received their examination results and find that their CGPA falls below the approved minimum for their college should expect to receive official withdrawal letters from the University through their official UG email addresses.

The university has also assured students who have already paid their tuition fees for the upcoming 2023/2024 academic year that a refund will be processed upon request if they are subsequently withdrawn.

“We recognize the significance of this announcement and extend an invitation to any student who has questions or requires support to contact the relevant College Academic Affairs Office,” she said.

She added that a specific notice for the College of Health Sciences will be issued in due course.

This announcement underscores the university's commitment to maintaining academic standards and ensuring that students meet the prescribed criteria for progression to higher levels of study.
