Controller and Accountant-General loses bid to become NPP Parliamentary candidate amid controversy

The Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, faced a setback when he failed to win the NPP parliamentary primary for Akim Swedru. He got 94 votes, while the sitting MP Kennedy Osei garnered 194 votes and Okyere Jerome Kwame had 10 votes.

This contest gained attention when Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem announced his bid for the seat.
The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) demanded his immediate removal from his position as the Controller and Accountant-General, for allegedly breaching the Civil Service Act, PNDC Law 327.

Additionally, on January 10, 2024, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, filed a lawsuit against Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem. The MP sought to prevent him from being in the NPP parliamentary primaries.

Mr. Dafeamekpor argued that Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem, as a civil servant, cannot participate in partisan politics without first resigning from his position.
