GFA President Kurt Okraku Calls for Unity and Extends Invitation to George Afriyie

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Kurt Okraku, has called on George Afriyie to conduct himself responsibly, recognizing Afriyie's significant role in the advancement of football within the nation.

Mr Okraku also expressed his intention to extend an invitation to the former GFA Vice President, emphasizing the interconnectedness of the football community.

Kurt Okraku secured his re-election as GFA President for a second term at the Global Dream Hotel in Tamale.

Notably, George Afriyie, the sole candidate who sought to contest Okraku for the position, was disqualified by the GFA Elections Committee. Consequently, Okraku ran unopposed in the election.

In his post-re-election statement, President Okraku reaffirmed his commitment to promoting unity within the football fraternity.

He intends to engage with George Afriyie in a bid to reintegrate him into the football community, underscoring his dedication to the collective progress and development of football in Ghana.

“The football pitch is very big and everybody, including my brother George Afriyie, has a role to play. I will reach out to George and bring him back home. So, George, wherever you are, we are one. My message to you is, Medeama,” Kurt told the delegates.

The GFA carried out its Elective Congress despite receiving legal notices of injunction from both George Afriyie and King Faisal.

Before the election, Afriyie had publicly announced his intention to pursue a legal remedy at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

He claimed that his human rights had been violated by both the GFA Elections Committee and the Appeals Committee.
