Government invites proposals to complete Saglemi

The Government says it commits to securing strategic investment from private entities or investors to complete the Saglemi affordable housing project at Prampram. Therefore, on Tuesday, the Ministry of Works and Housing opened requests for proposals for private sector participation to complete the 1, 506 housing units. In Accra, the Minister for works and Housing, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said the effort aims at helping to reduce the country’s housing deficit which currently stands at 1.8 million.

When the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project was launched in 2012, the idea was to address the affordable housing needs of Ghanaians. The original plan was to construct 5000 affordable housing units with funding by Government for sale to the public. Currently 1,506 units have made progress to various stages with limited essential infrastructure. In a move to fully complete the project, the Government through the Ministry of Works and Housing has issued a request for proposals inviting private sector participation. A member of the technical working group, Mr. Charles Pobi gave details of what they will look out for from anyone that submits their proposals.

The Minister for Works and Housing, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project has suffered a number of setbacks which has stalled the project for over a decade now and this is what the Government seeks to correct.
The request for proposals from private entities is opened from now till July 8, 2024
