Injury renders Rafael Nadal unfit for Australian Open

After an MRI scan revealed a micro tear on a muscle, 22 times grand slam winner Rafael Nadal is going to miss the Australian open.

During his last match in Brisbane against Jordan Thompson, Nadal sustained an injury in the last quarter.
The 22 times grand slam winner made his comeback in Brisbane after being on the sidelines for almost one year with injuries sustained from the Australian Open last January.

Rafael Nadal had surgery on the psoas tendon in his left hip last June and previously indicated that there was a high tendency that the 2024 tennis season was going to be his last.
In a post on X Nadal stated that after confirming what the pain was, he is taking some time off to rest and seek treatment with his doctors in Spain.

The Australian Open where Nadal is a two-time winner begins on Sunday January 14 2024 in Melbourne.
“When I arrived in Melbourne I had an MRI, which confirmed what the pain was. If I continue to play there’s a high chance, they could become fractures and instead of one month out it could be three. Although tempted to play injured and take full prize money, I felt it wasn’t right when other competitors have a better chance fully fit.”

Rafael Nadal is focused on recovering and returning to training towards the French Open which begins on Monday May 20, 2024. Here Nadal is a 14-time champion.
