MMDAs Urged to Use Poverty Index for Local Development

Mr. William Antiaye Addy, Deputy Director of Finance at the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), has called on Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to leverage the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) reports for local development.

Speaking at a session in Ho, Volta Region, Mr. Addy emphasized the importance of evidence-based decision-making, highlighting that the GSS consistently provides crucial statistical data to support such decisions.

He noted that the MPI offers comprehensive data to address local challenges, aiding the implementation and monitoring of the Medium-Term National Development Policy Framework (MTNDPF) 2022-2025 and various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The report targets multiple stakeholders, including Municipal Planning Units, Development Partners, and Civil Society Organizations, for effective resource allocation and policy-making.

Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, underscored the MPI’s role in revealing poverty’s multifaceted nature and urged local authorities to translate the report’s findings into actionable policies to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth.
