NCA justifies closure of Salt FM in Agogo.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has explained the disconnection of the equipment of Salt FM located at Agogo, and its subsequent shutting down.

The Authority says it had earlier notified the station on several occasions to renew its authorisation license, but they failed to do so.
It was being alleged that, NCA’s decision was influenced by political rivals of the radio station owner, Ohene Kwame Frimpong a member of the ruling party, who recently declared his intention to run as an independent parliamentary candidate in the Asante Akim North Constituency.
According to them, the support from the community during his rally triggered this effect thus, some residents from the community rallied round in protest on Tuesday, 6th January, 2024.
However, the Ashanti Regional Office of the NCA countered all assertions concerning the shutting down of the radio station.
According to the NCA, closure of media houses is not new but has happened several times in the country.
Officials at the Kumasi office of the NCA emphasized that the closure of Salt FM was on the right path though, they refused to speak on record.
