NDC Criticizes Akufo-Addo Government Reshuffle: Calls for Change

In a critique of the recent government reshuffle announced by President Akufo-Addo, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed disappointment in what he described as a missed opportunity for change.

At a media briefing organised by the NDC on Wednesday, 14th February 2024, Fifi Kwetey condemned the continuation of the status quo within the government, despite Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s pledge to reduce the number of ministers to 50.

He was not happy about the entrenched culture of governmental excesses, cronyism, and inefficiency that persisted despite widespread calls for reform.
“Despite the vociferous appeals from Ghanaians, civil society, the clergy, academicians, and think tanks to trim the bloated size of government – a glaring drain on our nation’s scarce resources -this administration has once again turned a deaf ear,” he said.

The NDC emphasized the urgent need for a leaner, more efficient government that prioritizes the welfare of the Ghanaian people over political interests.
He was disappointed at the reshuffling of ministers who have failed to deliver tangible progress over the past seven years.

Calling on the electorate to voice their decision in the upcoming general election, Fifi Kwetey urged Ghanaians to accept a future under leadership that understands and addresses the nation’s challenges.

Moreover, he reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to delivering transparent, accountable governance responsive to the needs of every citizen.

In conclusion, Fifi Kwetey characterized the government reshuffle as “much ado about nothing,” underscoring the pressing need for real change towards a government of action rather than mere words.
