President Akufo Addo Advocates Long-Term Football Strategy Following Black Stars’ Disappointing AFCON Performance.

President Akufo Addo says developing a long-term strategy to help solve the country’s football glitches is of the essence. The call comes on the heels of the recent unimpressive performance of the Black Stars at the just-ended AFCON in la Cote d’Ivoire.

Ghana managed only two points out of a possible nine points which led to the early exit of the team from the tournament. This according to the president has raised concerns over the future of the national team.

Delivering his penultimate SONA today, President Akufo Addo said “It is time for us to take a long-term, far-sighted approach to correct what has gone wrong. It is time to return to scouting, grooming and developing talent at the district grassroots level under a Presidential Policy on Football that I intend to unveil”.

Adding that, “The school sports department of the Ministry of Education will work hand in hand with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration and synergy with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to build the district, regional and national juvenile teams for both boys and girls”.

He further stated the over 150 Astro Turfs constructed across the country by his administration should provide the basis for the beginning of a new generation.

The Black Stars are currently without a manager and the search for a new gaffer is still in progress.
