Public Utilities Regulatory Commission Announces Electricity and Water Tariff Review.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has given details of the outcome of its tariff review, regarding electricity and water charges in Ghana.

The revised tariffs are set to be implemented from April 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024, as part of the Commission’s Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism.

In a statement, the PURC clarified that the adjustments align with uncontrollable factors such as the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Ghana Cedi, domestic inflation rate, electricity generation mix, and the cost of fuel, particularly natural gas.

These periodic reviews aim to sustain the real value of tariffs, ensuring the financial viability of utility service providers.

Taking into account the competitiveness of industries and the general living conditions of Ghanaians, the Commission emphasized that lifeline consumers (0-30 kWh) and residential consumers within the 0-300 kWh consumption bracket will experience no change (0%) in electricity tariffs.

However, residential consumers within the 301 kWh and above bracket can anticipate an average reduction of 6.56%.

For non-residential consumers within the 0-300 kWh range, there will be no adjustment to their electricity tariffs. On the other hand, those falling within the 301 kWh and above category will experience an average reduction of 4.98%.

The PURC further announced that water tariffs for all customer classes will remain unchanged during the specified review period.
