Real Madrid Set for Champions League Showdown with Bayern Munich After La Liga Triumph

The Santiago Bernabeu will experience another great Champions League night as Real Madrid plays Bayern Munchen in the second semi-final clash for a place in the finals.

Having played out an exhilarating 2-2 draw in the first leg, both teams hope to take their chances since that is the only way to secure qualification.

Although Bayern have won four of the seven meetings on aggregate between these two at this stage of the competition, Madrid have won each of the past two which hints that recent history is on Los Blancos’ side.

The Spanish giants enter the clash in a buoyant mood after finally clinching their 36th La Liga crown this past weekend after they beat Cádiz 3-0 while Barcelona fell to Girona.

That was their 37th competitive win of the season (D10, L2), and having scored 2+ goals in each of their past five matches at this venue, it’s likely Bayern need a big night from their attack if they’re to match their hosts again.

The Bavarians hold a record of just one defeat from their last 12 games against Spanish teams home or away (W7, D4), although a caveat to that is they have lost six of their last eight knockout ties against such teams.

Only in the group stage of 99-00, with a 2-4 defeat; and in the semi-finals of 2000-01, with a 0-1 win, where Bayern Munich managed to storm the Santiago Bernabeu. The rest were wins for the Spanish giants, such as the 4-2 semi-final victory in 2017 or the 1-0 semi-final win in 2014, before winning ‘La Decima’.

Meanwhile Dortmund awaits the winner of tonight’s fixture as they pipped PSG by a goal to nil at the Parc des Princes yesterday.
