Rotational Nurses and Midwifery Association Threaten Strike in Two Weeks

The Rotational Nurses and Midwifery Association (RNMA) has issued a statement giving a two-week ultimatum to the Ministry of Health, demanding payment of outstanding allowances owed to its members, failure of which, within the given time frame, will lead to a strike action.

The RNMA declared that over GH₵12,000 in allowances for the July batch of rotational nurses and midwives remain unpaid. The statement says multiple letters have been sent to the Ministry since September 2023 requesting the release of financial clearance, but have not received any response.

The RNMA leadership has criticized the government for its inaction, stating that it is negatively impacting the well-being and financial stability of its affiliates and the Ghanaian healthcare system. They say, if their concerns are not addressed promptly, they will initiate a strike within two weeks.

The association urged the Ministry of Health to expedite the release of their financial clearance and has called on the Ministry of Finance to take immediate action. They are also seeking support from the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, and other stakeholders to put pressure on the government for a quick resolution.

While demanding swift action, the RNMA leadership is advising its members to remain calm and determined as they pursue a resolution through appropriate channels.
