UGMC Successfully Completes Initial Kidney Transplant Surgeries


The University of Ghana Medical Centre Ltd (UGMC) has successfully completed its inaugural series of six kidney transplant surgeries.

In a statement on Sunday night [June 30, 2024], UGMC announced that the surgeries were performed by a team of highly skilled local and international medical professionals.

“The UGMC has conducted six kidney transplant surgeries with utmost precision, care, and expertise,” the statement read.

Dr. Emmanuel Asante, Head of Urology at UGMC, noted that the procedures were executed flawlessly, highlighting the centre’s capabilities in complex surgical operations and post-operative care.

Dr. Kwame Anim Boamah, Chief Executive Officer of UGMC, stated that the success of these initial kidney transplants demonstrates the centre’s commitment to medical excellence and improving patient outcomes through innovative and compassionate care.
