Water Shortage Hits Greater Kumasi Metropolis Due to Power Outages at GWCL

The Greater Kumasi Metropolis is facing intermittent water supply, and residents say, this is an inconvenience. The water company says the problem is due to unstable power supply to water treatment plants and booster stations.

Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Ashanti Region has issued a public announcement, highlighting the challenges stemming from power cuts at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and the Achiase Booster Station.
In recent weeks, these facilities have grappled with electricity disruptions, hampering their ability to produce and distribute potable water effectively.

Management of GWL has informed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) about the situation, urging them to improve power supply to ensure uninterrupted water provision to the metropolis.
While GWL assures the public that water supply will resume immediately after power is restored, they also advise citizens to use available water judiciously until the issue is resolved.

In light of the water scarcity, GWL has provided contact numbers for residents and essential service providers to reach out for assistance. These include toll-free lines, standard phone numbers, and WhatsApp contacts, emphasizing their commitment to addressing concerns and maintaining communication during the crisis.
