13th African Games: We are not only focusing on winning medals

Team Ghana’s Chef de Mission for the 2023 Africa Games, Ernest Danso says the team is not only aiming to win medals in the upcoming 13th African Games to be held in Accra.

He says although the team is well prepared to win more medals, they look forward to qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“We are ready to win more medals at the games and also aiming for the ultimate qualification to the next Olympic Games. That’s our priority”, he said.

Team Ghana seeks to qualify to the 2024 Olympic Games through Athletics, Badminton, cycling, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon and wrestling.

Addressing a Media Seminar in Accra by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 13th African Games, Mr. Danso stated that the team has decided to use the games as a gateway to qualification to Paris 2024.

He added that the athletes and officials are facing no challenges as part of their preparations and are ‘very okay’ as things stand.

“They are feeling okay. They are very good here. When it comes to their per diems, the ministry is giving everything. What they have here so far, they haven’t had that before”, he said.

Ghana is expected to participate in all 30 sporting disciplines at the games, set to commence on March 8.
