Air Quality Declared Unhealthy

The Environmental Protection Agency says the air quality measured over Ghana’s sky shows that there are high levels of pollutants in the atmosphere.

In its recent monitoring, EPA describes the quality of air measured from 26th January through to 4th February as very unhealthy.

Meanwhile, the Chief Weather Forecaster at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Felicity Ahiafenyo, says the current weather condition is a reemergence of the harmattan and a cause for concern because of the amount of dust in the atmosphere.

In an interview with TV3 monitored by RGG News, Madam Ahiafenyo noted that the weather conditions will worsen in the coming days.

She explained that the condition is as a result of dust concentration in the atmosphere and pollutants from vehicle exhausts and manufacturing companies.

She appealed to individuals with chronic respiratory infections to take their medications, stay hydrated and wear a nose mask if necessary.

“The atmosphere as at now contains disease causing pathogens which are very unhealthy for individuals”, she said.
