The General legal Council has dismissed a petition filed by the Member of Parliament for Assin North James Gyakye Quayson seeking disciplinary action againt the Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame.   Director, Public Prosecution Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, announced this in Court, while responding to Tsatsu Tiskata’s comment on his client’s move to report the AG to the GLC for professional misconduct in Court.
Madam Yvonne Attakora Obuobisa, made the disclosure in Court during the criminal proceedings of Gyakye Quayson, Member of Parliament for Assin North. Reacting to the information, Lawyer for Gyakye Quayson,  Tsatsu Tsikata said, they are not privy to the dismissal of the petition, and said, prosecution, could have made them aware of the decision by the GLC, ahead of the hearing. Mr. Tiskata, earlier in his argument before Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, told the Court of his client’s move to report Godfred Yeboah Dame, to the disciplinary committee of the General Legal Council, over an alleged professional misconduct in the handling of his criminal trial at the High Court. Mr James Gyakye Quayson is facing five counts of deceit of a public officer, forgery of a passport or travel certificate, knowingly making a false statutory declaration, perjury and false declaration for office. He pleaded not guilty to all five criminal charges on February 15, 2022 and is currently on a GHc100, 000 bail bond. He is in court  over issues  of his alleged dual citizenship, when he contested the 2020 Parliamentary elections. The State holds the view that , Mr Quayson, allegedly made a false statement to the Passport Office that he did not hold a passport to another country at the time  he applied for a Ghanaian Passport. He has also been accused of making a false declaration to the Electoral Commission that he did not owe any allegiance to a foreign country when he filed to contest as Parliamentary candidate for his constituency. The State started criminal proceedings against Mr. Gyakye Quayson after one Richard Takyi-Mensah petitioned the Police over his actions.
