Austria and Turkey Clash in Euro 2024 Last 16 Amid Historic Quarter-Final Quests

Austria takes on Turkey in the last round of 16 matches tonight as they seek to book a place in the quarter finals of the ongoing Euro 2024 in Germany.

This will be Austria’s second visit to this stage but have never gone further, suffering a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat after extra-time to eventual winners Italy in 2021. Rangnick’s side probably won’t be dwelling on that historic H2H record for too long after beating the Netherlands 3-2.

However, Turkey might be more inclined to draw inspiration from history as they try to find the sort of consistency needed to continue in the tournament.

In the knockouts for the first time since 2008 when Austria were co-hosts, their late 2-1 winner against the Czech Republic put the seal on second place in Group F which means they avoided Spain in the last 16.

Victory over Turkey would set up a rematch with the Netherlands or a clash with Romania in the quarter-finals.

Statistically, Austria and Turkey have received a combined average of 4.33 yellow cards per game at this tournament.
