Cracking the Egg Myth: Dietician Debunks Misconceptions, Advocates Moderation

A Dietician at Trust Hospital and Clinics, Mr. Wise Chukwudi Letsa has clarified that eating more than one egg a day is acceptable, as a balanced diet requires adequate protein intake.

He likened the consumption of eggs to that of fish, suggesting that just like we can eat fish 3 times a day, the same applies to an egg.

In an interview with RGGNEWS, the dietician emphasized that there are no age or gender restrictions on egg consumption.

According to him, while eggs are highly beneficial for children and the elderly due to its rich nutritional content and the ease with which their body absorbs and utilizes proteins, adults are also encouraged to include them in their diet.

Mr. Chukwudi Letsa classified eggs as protein-rich foods containing essential vitamins, minerals land folic acid.

Addressing common misconceptions about eggs and cholesterol, he explained that while excessive eating of eggs may lead to elevated cholesterol levels, moderate intake, including egg yolks, is generally safe.

Moreover, he cautioned against frying eggs in excessive oil, as it can also lead to an increase in cholesterol levels.

He also said it is not that pregnant women should avoid eggs to prevent their babies from becoming thieves. This he says is discouraging its intake.

He further projected that, there are no adverse effects to omitting eggs from one’s diet if other protein sources are adequately consumed.

Advocating moderation, Mr. Letsa recommended eating one or two eggs per meal, preferably boiled, to avoid potential health risks associated with excessive or fried egg consumption.
