Cross-Party Consensus Emerges on Voter Registration Concerns

The morning show "Newday" on TV3, hosted by Roland Walker, recently featured a discussion on the ongoing limited voters registration exercise. The panel included Mr. Abraham Amaliba, Head of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Mr. Eric Amoako Twum, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team, and Mr. Kwame Jantuah, Chairman for Political Affairs of the Convention People's Party (CPP). They provided valuable insights into the challenges and concerns surrounding the registration process.

 One notable aspect was the unity of concern expressed by representatives of the NDC, CPP and NPP, echoing the sentiments of many Ghanaians. Mr. Amaliba advocated for decentralizing the registration process, questioned the Electoral Commission's (EC) stance on the guarantor system, and stressed the need to remove minor names from the register.

 Mr. Twum emphasized the importance of the EC addressing citizen concerns and called for political parties to come together at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) to hold the EC accountable.

 Mr. Jantuah highlighted the need for decentralization, requested evidence regarding allegations of minors being transported to registration centres, and stressed the importance of the EC demonstrating impartiality.

Overall, this discussion underscored the significance of addressing concerns and creating an accessible and efficient registration process. As the limited voters registration exercise continues, it is essential for the Electoral Commission to consider these recommendations and concerns to ensure a transparent and fair process that upholds democratic principles and encourages citizen participation in Ghana's elections.
