Daniel Asiedu Opens Defense in JB Danquah Murder Trial

Daniel Asiedu aka “Sexy Don Don,” the alleged murderer of former MP for Abuakwa North Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu has detailed his experience at the hands of Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, who was then the Greater Accra Regional Commander of Police. This was at the time of the killing of the late JB Danquah in 2016.

According to Sexy Don Don, he was threatened with death into accepting that, he was contracted by two Opposition NDC officials, that is one Sorogo and another man with an Ewe name, he could not remember. The former MP was allegedly killed by Asiedu on February 9, 2016 at his residence at Shiashie in Accra.

The accused who was led by his lawyer Yaw Dankwah to give his evidence in chief narrated to the court that he used to copy music onto memory cards for sale at the Madina Zongo Junction. He said on February 8, 2016 after the day’s work, he had made some sales and desired sexual satisfaction.

He therefore decided to patronize the services of a commercial sex worker at a place known as Konkonsa Bar at Agbogbloshie Kokomba. He said he took a commercial motorbike ride, popularly known as Okada from Madina Zongo Junction at about 6pm and got to his destination at about 7:12pm.

He said he entered the Konkonsa bar having been informed earlier by a friend that handsome men could get free sex and even be sponsored by the prostitutes. Asiedu narrated that he entered the bar and ordered for an energy drink. As he was sipping the drink, a lady approached him and asked if he came to see his girlfriend to which he responded in the negative. He said the lady whose name he gave as Janet offered to buy him another drink which he accepted.

The accused said he and Janet sat at the bar over some drinks until between 11:30pm and 12am when she requested to take him to her house. Asiedu continued that they engaged in some sexual activity after which he fell asleep. He told the court that he woke up around 2:30am and returned to the bar for another drink and a cigarette. He was at the bar until 4am when he went back to Janet’s house to check up on her.

Asiedu said when he got there, there was a crowd and he enquired from Janet what was going on. Janet said informants at the place broke into her room and demanded the whereabouts of the man she was in the room with. The accused explained that the informants usually attack and steal from customers of the commercial sex workers. Asiedu said he advised Janet to allow him to report the matter to the police. According to him, on his way to the police station, the Motorbike rider, who advised him against going to the police, suggested he went to see the Superior of one Mawuko who is a pimp, to caution him.

He narrated further that, upon getting to Mawuko’s superior, one Adotey, led him to the police to make his complaint, however, the tables turned on him, when he, rather was invited in by then Police Regional Commander, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, ASP Kofi Sarpong and former PRO, Accra Region, Efia Tenge, for interrogation.

The accused, continued that, upon getting into the office, he was given a seat in front of Dr. Dampare, while the two other officers, sat by him on each side. He went on to narrate that, the IGP, pulled his phone out of his pocket, put it in video mode, to record their conversation, after which Dr. Dampare asked him if he was sent by NDC officials and if it was one Sorogo who sent him or another NDC official, whom he described as short in stature and bears an Ewe name. Asiedu, who could not recollect the name of the second person, said, he saw him arrested on TV by the Police CID, while at the Police Station.

The accused, said, he inquired from the officers, what the problem was, but was not given any details, and was rather sent to an Engine Room by ASP Kofi Sarpong following instructions from Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. He said at the engine room, ASP Sarpong took out a machete from a fridge and hit his head with it. The accused said he bled and felt dizzy so he could not answer any question. Asiedu, said he was told to accept whatever Dr Dampare told him else he would be killed. At that moment he narrated that he could not think straight. He said the scar from the alleged attack is still visible on his head. The accused said

then ASP Sarpong gave him two hefty slaps from behind, following which he knelt down and begged that he would accept whatever he was asked to do. The accused told the court that he accepted to be taken back to the office so he could get further explanation on what they wanted him to do. Asiedu said he was handcuffed and sent back to the office where Dr Dampare again mentioned the names of the two NDC members that indeed they were the persons that sent him; and he agreed. He said he was kept there from morning until 6pm when he was transferred to the BNI. The case has been adjourned to May 29.
