ECG to embark on “Operation No Free Consumption”

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced the launch of a 15-day exercise called “Operation No Free Consumption” starting from February 1st to February 15th, 2024.

ECG says this exercise is to retrieve arrears from customers who have been using electricity without paying for it.

During the exercise, ECG teams will be on the field updating customer details such as phone numbers and GPS addresses, and disconnecting customers who have not paid their arrears.

ECG staff will also use its new Zeus mobile device for meter reading to take pictorial readings of all postpaid meters, capture and regularize all SHEP and non-ECG meters for customers to pay the regularization fee.

This exercise is part of ECG’s nationwide revenue mobilization initiative to recover outstanding debts from customers.

Last year ECG says it retrieved close to about 50% of its targeted GHc5.7 billion owed by customers during its special revenue mobilisation exercise.

The company is urging customers to pay their bills promptly to avoid disconnection and other penalties.
