GFA appoints a five-member search committee for a new Black Stars coach

The Ghana Football Association has put in place a strategy to hire the next Black Stars coach. A five-man search committee has been commissioned to evaluate potential candidates and provide recommendations to the Executive Board.

The search committee is chaired by Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, Mark Addo. Legal Practitioner and law lecturer Ace Ankomah (Esq.) will act as Vice Chairman, with the Director of Coaching Education at the GFA, Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, Ghana football legend Opoku Nti and William Caesar Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as members.

The search committee has three weeks to recommend the next Black Stars coach to the Executive Council for approval.

In a related development, the Ministry of Youth and Sports issued a statement that it would work with national team stakeholders to develop a comprehensive strategy to restore the Senior National Men’s Soccer Team.

The Ministry acknowledges the disappointment experienced by Ghanaians and football fans following the team’s 2-2 tie with Mozambique and Egypt and their loss to Cape Verde, resulting in Ghana’s elimination from the tournament.

“Regrettably, the recent and continued poor performance of the Black Stars highlights fundamental structural and systemic deficiencies in our football ecosystem and journey. This clearly points to the urgent need for a comprehensive diagnosis and restructuring of Ghana football to align with our aspirations in football and beyond”

The Ministry has requested the public’s support and understanding to rebuild and restore the future of football in the country.

The ministry is expected to share a strategic plan in the coming days that will likely include measures to address the root causes of the team’s struggles and improve their performance in future tournaments.
