Update on Ghana’s Submarine Cables Disruption


The National Communications Authority (NCA) has provided a comprehensive update on the repair progress following the disruption of data services in Ghana due to damage to submarine cables on March 14, 2024.

Engaging with the four Submarine Cable Service Providers (SAT-3, ACE, WACS, and MainOne), NCA provided the following:

– SAT-3: Their repair vessel departed from Cape Town, South Africa, on March 19, 2024, and is expected to reach the fault area by March 29, 2024. Repair work will commence immediately, with completion anticipated by the second week of April, subject to unforeseen circumstances.

– MainOne, WACS, and ACE: Collaboratively, they commissioned a repair vessel which embarked from London, UK, on March 24, 2024. En route to its first point of call, it is expected to arrive by April 8, 2024. The schedule for restoration is as follows:
– ACE: Completion targeted by April 17, 2024
– WACS: Completion anticipated by April 28, 2024
– MainOne: Restoration planned by May 9, 2024

The NCA emphasized that these dates are tentative and subject to change. It says further updates will be provided as and when necessary.
