Ghana, From Bond to Independence

Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast colony under British rule, received a promise of independence from British Governor Sir Charles Noble Arden Clarke.

The promise came with a letter granting Prime Minister Dr. Kwame Nkrumah the assurance of celebrating Ghana’s independence on September 17, 1956.

Following this assurance, the legislative assembly decided to mark Ghana’s Independence on March 6, 1957.

This date held particular significance as it coincided with the signing of the Bond of 1844, symbolizing the nation’s journey from colonial bondage to self-rule and emancipation from British control.

Ghana’s Independence Day on March 6, 1957, stands as a testament to the nation’s resilience and determination to chart its course, marking a momentous milestone in its history.
