IEA Economist Demands Apology from NPP and NDC for Ghana’s economic downturn

A Senior Economist at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Dr. John Kwakye says the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, and the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, must publicly apologize to Ghanaians for the country’s current state.

He made a post on “X” on 31st December 2023 and 1st January, 2024, in which Dr. Kwakye mentions that Ghana, once celebrated as the shining star of Africa, is now in a deplorable condition due to the failure of both political parties.

For him, the presidential candidates of the NPP and NDC must acknowledge their parties’ shortcomings over the past 32 years and outline concrete plans to reverse the nation’s economic decline.

His post continues that without a clear commitment to change, both parties don’t deserve the mandate of the Ghanaian people.

Likening the country to Manchester United, he stated that, “ManU reminds me of Ghana. As a country, we have abundant resources and talent. Yet we can’t perform. And it’s all because of bad leadership.”

In a final plea, Dr. Kwakye urged the presidential candidates of the NPP and NDC to openly accept their parties’ failures and present a transformative agenda for the nation “ otherwise the electorate should reject them.”
