Mobile accounts not linked to Ghana Card to be blocked after tomorrow

The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has announced the pending blocking of Agents accounts that are not linked to either the Ghana Card or Tax Identification Number (TIN) Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs).
In a statement on January 30 2024, the Chamber says the deadline for the linking process is set for January 31, 2024.
Following extensive discussions with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the chamber adviced that, Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) collaborate with agents and their customers to finalize the account linking process by the close of Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
The Chamber says, failure to comply with this deadline will result in the automatic blocking of agent accounts starting February 1, 2024.
This decision, communicated directly to affected agents through various channels, marks a significant effort to align mobile financial services with national regulatory requirements. The Chamber of Telecommunications emphasizes the importance of this compliance in fostering financial inclusion and supporting economic growth in Ghana.
Nevertheless, agents who find their accounts suspended on February 1, 2024, due to non-compliance are urged to visit any operator outlet with their Ghana Card or TIN to complete the necessary processes and reinstate their accounts.
The Chamber further echoed its commitment to providing convenient, secure, and accessible financial services to all Ghanaians and calls upon agents to promptly regularize their operations by linking their accounts with the required identification details.
