MoYS Unveils Exciting Lineup for 13th Africa Games and Plans for Legacy University at Borteyman Sports Complex


Minister for Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif says 29 sports codes will be competed for in the upcoming 13th Africa Games – 8 of which will be Olympic qualifiers, 15 non-Olympic qualifiers, and the remaining 6 are demonstration sports.

The Games officially kicks off from Friday, March 8 to March 23, 2024, and is expected to house 13,000 participants across the continent. 5,000 athletes, 3,000 volunteers, 3,000 technical officials, and 2,000 guests.

Addressing the media today under the theme “Experience the African Dream,” the Minister said the “Borteyman Sports Complex is going to be converted into a University for Sports and Development after the games”.

He further stated that the onus lies with the host country to take care of participating teams in terms of feeding, accommodation, transport, and security.

Over 2 billion global audiences are expected to follow the Games through TV, radio, and other virtual platforms across the globe.
