NPP Director of Communications Denies Double Registration Allegations

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has denied allegations of trying to register twice during the Limited Voter Registration Exercise. The registration process was disrupted at the Ketu South electoral registration center on Saturday, May 11, 2024, when officials from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) raised objection to Mr. Ahiagbah’s registration to be captured on the electoral roll.

NDC agents argued that Mr. Ahiagbah had participated in the 2020 election, which could result in double registration if allowed to proceed with his application. A video circulating on social media captured the tense atmosphere at the registration center, with background voices questioning Mr. Ahiagbah’s eligibility due to his alleged participation in the previous election.

In response, Mr. Ahiagbah in a statement refuted the allegations. He dismissed the videos on social media by NDC operatives attempting to misinform Ghanaians and claimed that the allegations of double registration were false and baseless. Detailing the incident at the registration center, he explained that he had been a registered voter in Ketu South since 2000, with his citizenship and residency well-known to the NDC agent challenging his eligibility.

Mr. Ahiagbah further stated that he had received a voter’s ID from the Electoral Commission in 2020, but he encountered biometric registration issues during the 2023 limited exercise. He attempted to rectify this during the current registration exercise, only to face obstruction from NDC agents.
