Reflections on Ghana’s Beach Scene After Christmas

One after the other, the Christmas events are winding down, and the excitement from the celebration will reverberate in the minds of many holidaymakers. The experiences at the various beaches along the coast are described differently.

In Accra, the state of beaches post-Christmas varies, with managers and workers expressing their observations and concerns for the new year.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) at Labadi Beach highlighted the influx of foreigners and families during December, attributing it to the festive season. However, as the new year rolled in, Ghanaians faced additional expenses, particularly with regards to school, leading to a drop in beach visits. While January had a drop in numbers, he is hopeful for a resurgence in the months ahead. For Anyele, a beachwear vendor, patronage in December was better compared to January, reflecting a seasonal trend.
On the other hand, Reydolf Nii Kortey, a popcorn seller at La Beach, reported that business was booming during the festive season, with a high number of customers.
Joseph Nii Martey Korley, the Operations Manager at Laboma Beach, discussed the trend of increased patronage from January through to December. He further mentioned a current downturn in patronage, expressing hope for improvement in the evenings and the days ahead.
A worker at Next Door Beach echoed similar sentiments, stating that business was more vibrant in December but has tapered off in January.
Despite the current challenges, there is an expectant outlook among beach operators, who eagerly anticipate a rebound in the near future.
