Fondly known as E.T. Mensah, he was born in Koforidua, Eastern Region, in May 1946, and his passing in South Africa on October 1, 2023, marked the end of a life well-lived at the age of 77. E.T. Mensah held a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Theological Studies from Vision International University in Romana, California. He was recognized as a Fellow in good standing of esteemed institutions such as the Institute of Financial Accountants (FFA), the Institute of Administrative Accountants (IAA), the National Association of Public Accountants (USA), and a Member of the Institute of Public Accountant (FIBA), Australia.

His career path encompassed various roles as a dedicated public servant and astute politician, endearing him to the hearts of people within and beyond Ghana's borders. Notably, his tenure as the Mayor of Accra during the years 1982 to 1992 transformed the capital city. His visionary leadership was the driving force behind numerous unprecedented developmental projects, shaping Accra into the vibrant metropolis it is today.

As Ghana transitioned into democratic governance in 1992, E.T. Mensah assumed the role of Deputy PNDC Secretary for Youth and Sports, ultimately rising to the position of Minister of Youth and Sports from April 1993 to January 6, 2001. His remarkable contributions in this capacity included the introduction of professional football, the establishment of sports policies, player transfer mechanisms, and sponsorship programs, along with the rollout of the National Youth Policy in 1999.

Furthermore, E.T. Mensah was a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and held key positions within the party, such as National Youth Organizer and Vice Chairman. His dedicated service extended to representing the Ningo Prampram Constituency as a Member of Parliament for an unprecedented five consecutive terms, spanning 20 years. He also assumed ministerial roles in Employment and social Welfare, Education, and Agriculture, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to nation-building.

E.T. Mensah's influence was felt even within the highest echelons of government, as he served as a member of the Government Task Force overseeing the implementation of the President's Priority Projects at the Office of the President. His dedication to the Greater Accra Region continued through his membership in the Council of State until his untimely passing.
