Replace lost voters ID cards – NDC to EC

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Kwetey is calling on Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) to replace lost voter ID cards of victims of the recent Akosombo dam spillage, at no cost to them.

At a news conference on Thursday, May 16, he stressed the urgency of the situation and called on the EC to respond promptly and compassionately.

“In light of the recent flood along the Volta River and the lake, we demand that the Electoral Commission provide replacement voter ID cards free of charge to affected individuals from May 30 onwards. This is not a request but a demand,” he emphasized.

In addition to addressing the voter ID card replacement issue, the General Secretary raised broader concerns about the EC’s operations.
“We call for the commencement of an independent bipartisan parliamentary inquiry into the actions of the EC, particularly focusing on the theft of BVR kits, which were under CCTV surveillance at the EC headquarters, and the mysterious disappearance of BVDs,” he said.

Moreover, he reiterated the significance of the EC’s actions in the days ahead, saying that would demonstrate the commission’s commitment to upholding Ghana’s democratic process.
Fiifi Kwetey emphasized the necessity of full accountability and immediate remedial action to restore public trust in the electoral process.
