International Public Service Day

Today is the annual International Public Service Day. It is a celebration dedicated to honouring the value and virtue of public service in communities worldwide.

Designated by the UN General Assembly on December 20, 2002, through resolution 57/277, June 23 has been recognized globally as a day to highlight the vital contributions of public servants and to encourage young people to consider careers in the public sector.

This year, the celebrations extend beyond the day itself, with the 2024 UN Public Service Forum and Awards Ceremony being held in Incheon, Republic of Korea, from June 24 to 26.

The highlight of the forum will be the UN Public Service Awards ceremony, where outstanding achievements and innovations in public service will be recognized. These awards not only honour exceptional contributions but also serve to inspire others in the field and encourage a new generation to pursue public service careers.

International Public Service Day serves as a reminder of the importance of public service in the development process and the significant impact public servants have on improving the lives of people around the world. By recognizing their efforts and encouraging the youth to engage in public service, the United Nations aims to strengthen public governance and contribute to sustainable development globally.
