Scholarships Bonanza: Lawyer Sosu calls for legislation to regulate government scholarships

The Member of Parliament for Madina, Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu, is calling for the enactment of a law to regulate Government of Ghana scholarships.

Lawyer Sosu’s comments follow public outcry triggered by an investigative report from the 4th Estate, revealing inconsistencies in the allocation and status of recipients of government scholarships.

“I think the Scholarship Secretariat must have some regulation to govern the awarding of government scholarships and parliament must have oversight responsibility and to administer these scholarships.

This exposé, I am sure will be one of the issues Parliament will deliberate on after our break because we need to scrutinize these people who are awarded scholarships”, he said.

In an interview with RGG News, Lawyer Francis Sosu said he was quite scandalized about the whole exposé and the silence on the part of government officials and the Secretariat.

“This is a monumental scandal, and I am shocked nothing is being said about it. We must demand accountability from these leaders and through that they will say something to us”, he said.
