Stop The Interference in the Black Stars Squad Selection – Ghanaian Sports Enthusiasts

The whistle to start proceedings in the 2024 AFCON is on 14th January 2024 in la Cote d’Ivoire. It offers continental glory for 24 national teams pushing to outshine each other to lift the trophy as Africa’s number 1 team.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has released a 55-man squad list that will be later trimmed for the final Black Stars team that will represent Ghana at the continental soccer fiesta, AFCON 2024.

Some Ghanaians have expressed their innate opinions and expectations from the GFA and the Black Stars.

A Ghanaian football enthusiast, Sampson Annor-Gyeke said the National Coach, Mr. Chris Hughton should be allowed freedom to work with the technical team to achieve the ultimate, which is to win the cup.

For Sampson, interference from the government and other top GFA officials concerning the selection of players should cease.

He goes on to state although some players within the 55-man squad released have been instrumental to the nation some years back, they are currently not in the positions to start a game now. He recommends that these players that the nation is grateful to, should be made to start from the bench and not at the beginning of a game.

Another enthusiast, Benjamin Arcton-Tettey said he was happy about the inclusion of the local players in the list that was released and hopes that more of them make it to the final squad selection that is yet to come out.

Benjamin reveals that although our Ghanaian players have the experience and individually are performing well in their various clubs, the national team, the Black Stars, lacks the cohesion it had a few years back.” He states that there should be the unity that allows the team to excel.

He further states that the purported rumors about government interference in the selection of players if true would not help the team.

“A good coach can be made to look bad when there is outside interference, it will harbor player indiscipline and the coach cannot be blamed when the team is not performing,” he said

Mr. Paul Adu also disclosed to RGGNEWS that Ghanaians have lost interest in Ghana’s football activities.

Mr. Adu points at poor management of the GFA and not strategising with the Coach and the technical team to give the Black Stars its previous shine. These, he believes have caused a lot of fans to lose interest in the national team.
