WAEC Withholds Results of 289 Candidates Amid Allegations of Examination Malpractice

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) says it is withholding the entire results of 289 candidates out of 37,825 who participated in the 2023 private West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The examination body cited allegations of various forms of examination malpractice against these candidates as the reason that triggered this action.

In a statement accompanying the release of the provisional results, WAEC outlined the malpractices, including collusion, impersonation, and the unauthorized presence of foreign materials such as mobile phones in examination halls.

WAEC emphasized that the withheld results will remain pending until investigations into the alleged malpractices are concluded.

Depending on the outcomes of these investigations, the results will either be released or cancelled.
