Students should not be punished for not paying PA-related dues – GES.

The Ghana Education Service says students in pre-tertiary schools should not be tied to Parent Association’s activities through the school or their parent/guardian and won’t be accountable for PA-related dues.
“By extension, no student/learner, in both basic and second cycle schools, shall be held responsible for non-payment of any PA-related dues and other contribution by students.
The GES rules say, “They shall therefore not be prevented from attending or participating in any school-based activities.”
As part of the introduction of the Inaugural Guidelines for Parent Associations previously known as Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in pre-tertiary schools nationwide, some instructions were given to be followed.
In the guidelines document from GES, Parent Associations serve as valuable platforms for collaboration between parents/guardians and educational institutions, aiming to support improved education and school growth.
The management of the GES acknowledged the PAs’ past contributions in areas like infrastructure, furniture, teaching materials, vehicles, water systems, sanitation, facility maintenance, staff motivation, school beautification, and cleanliness.
Also in guidelines, the Service further states that PAs should independently elect executive officers, operate as open associations for all parents/guardians, and not involve the school in their activities.
In addition, it says staff who are parents and association members should not use their official school status for PA-related engagements.
Furthermore, the GES says that the PAs can undertake projects supporting school development, but upon completion, the school has full authority over project management without PA interference.
