Afenyo-Markin Assumes Role of Majority Leader in Parliament


The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has made some significant changes in its parliamentary leadership. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the deputy majority leader and MP for Efutu in the Central Region, has been appointed as the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in the House, replacing the outgoing Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

The current Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam/Adoagyire in the Eastern Region, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, will now assume the role of Deputy Majority Leader. Additionally, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, the MP for the Tolon constituency in the Northern Region and former 1st Deputy Whip, has been promoted to the position of Chief Whip.

The NPP has also introduced two new leaders: Patricia Appiagyei, the current MP for Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region and former Deputy Minister for Environment Science Technology and Innovations, now serves as the 1st Deputy Whip. Alex Djornobuah Tetteh, former Deputy Minister for Western North and MP for Sefwi-Akontombra Constituency is now the 2nd Deputy Whip.

According to sources within the party, these changes are a reflection of the party’s strategic adjustments and preparations for the general election in December.
