Government is mocking us- Unemployed Nurses

The PRO of the Unemployed Nurses Association, Desmond Frimpong, says the government is toying with the emotions of nurses regarding their recruitment.

Mr Frimpong says there is the need for clear communication to these health professionals, because raising hopes and then abruptly denying recruitment feels like mockery to the nurses and their desperate parents.

Describing the initial announcement of nurse recruitment as positive news, Mr Frimpong highlighted the disappointment caused by the Ministry of Health’s sudden denial.

He stressed the emotional toll on nurses who had anticipated relief from unemployment, only to be plunged back into a state of uncertainty and depression.

He further expressed concern about the overburden on the finances of parents who invested in nursing training and are still to take care of them as they await posting.

The PRO pointed out the concern of prolonged unemployment for nursing graduates from 2020 and 2021, as well as other nurses who have been unemployed for several years.

He urged fair and equal treatment for nurses compared to doctors as they complement each other in the medical field.

He says however, that the Unemployed Nurses Association remains hopeful for a positive outcome in the next official communication.
