Hajia4Real Pleads Guilty in US Court for Role in Romance Scam Laundering Scheme

Ghanaian social media star Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia4Real on social media, has entered a guilty plea in a US court for her involvement in a series of romance scams.

The 31-year-old was extradited from the United Kingdom to the US last year on charges of swindling over US$2 million from older, single American men and women in a heart-wrenching lonely-hearts scam.

In a statement released by a US Attorney’s office, Hajia4Real admitted to one count of conspiracy to receive stolen money, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

She also agreed to forfeit $2,164,758.41 and make restitution in the same amount. The guilty plea was made before US Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave, with sentencing scheduled to be determined by US District Judge Paul A. Crotty.

The case highlights the far-reaching consequences of online scams and serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of fraudulent activities on social media platforms.
