Parliament Seeks Transparency on Agyapa Deal Expenditures

The scrutiny over the suspended Agyapa Gold Royalties deal continues as the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament calls for transparency regarding expenditures.

Led by the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, the committee has formally requested the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) to provide detailed information on the government’s USD$12 million expenditure related to the deal.

In a letter dated February 20, 2024, the committee expressed its awareness of public discourse surrounding the matter and emphasized the need for clarity.

The committee’s request includes the submission of evidential documents supporting the alleged expenditure, with a deadline set for February 27, 2024.

The motive behind this inquiry, as stated in the letter signed by Senior Assistant Clerk Benjamin Tachie Antiedu, is to guide the Select Committee on the appropriate steps to address the allegations.

This latest development underscores Parliament’s commitment to accountability and transparency in financial matters concerning national assets.
