Slow and Stale Parliament – Experienced MPs Bowing Out.

Seasoned Members of Parliament not seeking re-election in the 2024 general elections is of concern for many. The reason being, there is likely to be a vacuum without the presence and contribution of experienced MP’s to the business of the House, post-Election 2024.

In an interview on TV3, Mr. Richard Ahiagbah the Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party said “everyone has value and they bowing out will create a gap. Going through the processes of the house alone is experience and bringing new ones would require new training for them” he said in the interview.

Mr. Bobby Banson a legal practitioner commented on the issue, also in the interview, by stating that “political parties should by themselves invest in those who they put forward as Members of Parliament.”

The investing and streamlining of candidates that vie for positions as MPs would be of benefit in speeding up parliamentary proceedings.

He also mentioned that there should be consideration of state funding of political activities to reduce the monetization of these activities by candidates of political parties.
