The Environmental Protection Agency cautions the public about dust levels during Harmattan

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a public notice cautioning the general public about an increase in dust levels due to the onset of the harmattan season.

As such, the public is being advised to wear pollution masks where necessary, desist from open burning of waste and to sprinkle water on dusty surfaces before sweeping to reduce dust emissions.

Most importantly the EPA has advised vehicle users not to speed particularly on untarred roads to reduce dust emissions and protect the safety of road users.

In a statement issued by the Corporate Affairs Department of the Agency on Wednesday, 20th December, 2023, it emphasized that “vulnerable groups especially the elderly, children, pregnant women, people with asthma and related allergies and any other persons with underlying health conditions are entreated to reduce outdoor activities where necessary.”

The Agency assured that it will continue to monitor the situation and promptly update the public on any new development about particulate levels in the atmosphere.
