Traffic situation in the City ahead of the Christmas Season

As the festive season draws nigh, the city of Accra, is grappling with heightened congestion as the days wear on, intensifying the challenges of navigating through traffic. The urban landscape transforms into a vibrant hub of holiday fervor, characterized by bustling scenes of vehicles maneuvering through densely packed streets.

Engaging with both motorists and passengers provides a snapshot of the impact this heightened traffic has on individuals. Motorists detail the added stress and delays, while passengers are exasperated at extended travel times and the overall inconvenience.

A driver at the Tema station in Accra, complains that the delay in traffic drains their fuel and that increases their expenses for the day. And meanwhile, their daily rounds have dropped in number, thus, reducing their income.

In a candid interview with a driver stationed at Tema station in Accra, he laments the significant drain on fuel during traffic delays, resulting in escalated daily expenses. Concurrently, the number of rounds they can complete in a day has diminished, directly impacting their overall income.

However, a lotto agent at the Accra-Koforidua station offers a unique perspective on the traffic situation. While acknowledging the negative impact of traffic, he points out its positive effects as well. According to him, the traffic boosts his business as many people find themselves congested at the station.

A passenger who commutes from Accra to Kasoa daily was also not happy about the long hours it takes him to get home due to the congestion on the road.

Their appeal is therefore, that though the traffic during Christmas cannot be stopped, measures can be put in place by the police to make things easier and manageable for all.
