University Administrators to go on strike

The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has announced its intended strike on Monday, 29th January, 2024.
The administrators say they made their decision after the Government’s failure to attend to the association’s declaration on 19th January, 2024. In a statement on the said date, the association made it known that, they will take action if Government fails to respond to their concerns.
According to the Association, the strike is until the government settles their welfare issues.
GAUA made their intentions known in a statement released on January 23, 2024, following an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on the same day.
“At an emergency GAUA National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held today, 23rd January 2024, NEC has decided that following Ghana Government’s failure to address the myriad of problems plaguing senior administrators in the public universities enumerated here, and the penchant attitude of government agencies in handling issues affecting staff of the traditional universities, it is embarking on a strike.”
Furthermore, GAUA criticized the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) for their unsatisfactory handling of the conditions of service for university administrators.
The association highlighted that these two government agencies have consistently worked against the interests of administrators by independently issuing directives that negatively impact their well-being.
The Association demands that, the GTEC-led decisions on office-holding allowances of affected members be immediately suspended and ceased.
